The most important to me is Spotlight, which is limited to one importer per file type.

i fail to see why one'd use spotlight for manpages. especially since no one opens manpages from anything other than a terminal.

- man -K is slow and blocks on input for every. single. matching. file.
- source:/trunk/dports/aqua/ManOpen/Portfile

FYI: As of Leopard also Apple ships gzipped man pages.
a) If you really need a fast full text search for man pages (e.g index based), go to the man people and ask there.
b) From ManOpen's description: "it will display the output from the `man' command-line program." man can read gzipped man pages, so would ManOpen, right? I can't test as it does not build for me.
I don't want to start a reopen/close war by closing this again, but we are not going to change anything.

What software does it "confound" ?
