x86-fat.diff patch needed for gmp

The x86-fat.diff patch is needed to compile a workable version of gmp. This can be obtained from

​http://gmplib.org/patches/x86-fat.diff

Without this, working with the version of the compiling tools in xcode 2.4.1, I cannot build e.g. the Perl module Math::GMP against this GMP library; it complains of missing symbols.

Can you show me how to see the problem? I'm on Intel Core 2 Duo, and I have gmp 4.2.1_4 installed, and I tried installing p5-math-gmp, and it seemed to install just fine.
