Error: Status 1 encountered during processing.

Observation

On my hard disk there was more than 8 GB free before running the commands, so I assume that it was the disk image that had no space left.

Questions relating to space on device

  1. How to avoid running out of space on the device?
  2. How to calculate the amount of space required?
  3. If the amount can not be calculated, how much would we guess?

Questions relating to the procedures

  1. Why is the password required at multiple points?

Thanks
Graham

If you wonder why I'm working with such a string of commands, it's because

— things like that.

Component: portsbase

As for " 4. Why is the password required at multiple points?", that's because there is a timeout on how long sudo remembers a password for. I believe the default value is 5 (mins)

Whilst the command above is running, I'm

  1. first prepare an image with sufficient capacity
  2. then run the string of commands.

Result of the preceding command

All 37 dependencies missing from disk image.

Replying to afb@macports.org:

Thanks for confirming, I did suspect a sudo timeout issue. As I'm now running comparable strings of commands on a much slower Power Mac G4, there are (natrually) many more password prompts, over the longer period.

Instead, you can use Apple's X11 that is provided on the OS X install CDs ...
and also install the X11 SDK from Xcode Tools because they are both required.
There is also a working XFree86 port and ongoing development to port X11R7 to OS X.

  • wv-1.2.4.tmp.dmg is remarkable, presumably a temporary image not purged when the Error: Status 1 occurred
  • the .tgz and .tar files were produced by me after the event
  • uncompressed .tar of the .mpkg is 50 M
  • .tmp.dmg is 51 M
  • recursive directory listing of the metapackage.

Re http://dev.plone.org/plone/ticket/7679#comment:6 and thereabouts, it remains to be seen (I hope for others to test) whether the metapackage works as intended.

I assume so too... (that it was the disk image it created, rather than your hard disk itself)

It calculates the space based on the size of the mpkg, but apparently something failed there.

Is the size of the .mpkg in this case — around 50 MB — uncommonly large?

Nah, each little dependency package adds up - and for instance Gimp is more like 150 MB.

The biggest downside is that for each port update you need to repackage the entire mpkg.
