I ran sync and updates as well as removed the package and tried to redownload the package. May have been updated with the checksums recreated.

The distfile I just fetched from www.ibiblio.org seems to match the portfile's checksum just fine. Can you try running 

sudo port clean --all jakarta-log4j
sudo port -d checksum jakarta-log4j

and if it fails, post the results of the second command here?
