It seems the mplayer port in macports suffers the same issue as described in the following FreeBSD port bug: ​http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=126354

Can we not resolve this issue in the same manner as it has been resolved in FreeBSD as linked in the problem description?

Ancient. I don't see this issue with current sources.
