Description
Just did: Install new downloaded MacPorts - MacPorts-1.7.0-10.5-Leopard.dmg port install emacs+x11
I get LOADS AND LOADS of stuff installed including /Applications/Python - I thought that the rules said - 'we don't hit on your standard installed stuff'.

Installing the Python application bundles in /Applications/MacPorts is actually how it is supposed to work, since those three apps are standard with Python itself.
If you don't want any port installed into /Applications/MacPorts you can, as jmr said, set the applications_dir to a different location, but be sure to uninstall any ports which have already installed into that location first. You can set applications_dir in /opt/local/etc/macports/macports.conf .

OK - many thanks for your joint prompt, patient and friendly replies.
Everything installed into /Applications should actually be under /Applications/MacPorts, unless you've changed your applications_dir. Which port(s) installed into /Applications/Python? You can find out with port provides /path/to/file.
