how do I get it updated so I can download the latest approved or even the beta?

4.76 is the current release version of nmap.

Macports tracks stable/release versions of ports normally.

Someone could make a nmap-devel port to track the beta (or other pre-release) versions, but the normal nmap port will only update once a new stable version is released.
