thanks; I wasnt sure if openmaintainer overrode having another maintainer there as well, so thought i'd check first.

openmaintainer usually means simple changes should be okay, but major, drastic updates should probably have a ticket. Of course, if the port is broken in some way and you can fix it, do so, even with maintained ports not listed with openmaintianer.
Also, be sure to note the revision in which the change was committed when closing the ticket, for easy viewing. Using the revision number preceded by an r is best since trac will then automatically link it here. As in, this was fixed in r58419.
