Using latest MacPorts (1.8.1) mc does fail to start (crash). 

Error (gdb): 
Program received signatl EXC_BAD_ACCESS, Could not access memory.
Reason: 13 at address: 0x0000... 0x0000000000000000 0x000000010000baaa in add_widget ()
