Description

Just finished a new rebuild with new Xcode, and newest MacPorts and clean install of xorg-server. Following that, installed ( without errors ) xephem. Launched the MacPorts X11 and opened Terminal, cd'd to /opt/local/bin where I entered ./xephem .

Attach the crash log. Does it also crash with Apple's X11.app? What are your CPU architecture and OS version?

It crashes with both the Apple X11.app and the MacPorts/X11.app - exactly the same dump on Terminal. Running MacBook Pro, Intel Core Duo, OS 10.6.1 . As I have a plethora of crash logs to choose from, which one in particular will be most helpful? Any of the ones that the Console shows, or is there another batch of .logs to view? Thanks, Al.. I will also bring this crash up with the folks at xephem's home.

I assume you meant Core 2 Duo, as the Core Duo can't run 64-bit code (which the crash log says it is). Is your libXm provided by openmotif or lesstif?

Yes, Intel Core 2 Duo. As for where libXm came from, I have no idea. I have been working towards restoring the apps that I used on my older laptop. Moved to this one, and have completely removed all MacPorts, and started from scratch with new Xcode and the latest MacPorts. I now have a very few apps running under the MacPorts X11 ( xorg-server ) . How can I tell how I got the libXm ? I started with nothing, added xorg-server, which failed twice until I manually did libX11 and openssl ( if I recall correctly ) . Next step? Thanks for your time. BTW: joined the xephem group, searched for a similar form of crash log output and found no mention of XtAddCallback reported.

libXm is provided by openmotif in your case (since that's installed & active). Same versions installed here and xephem doesn't crash. Do you have files in ~/.xephem? If you do, does it still crash when you move that aside?

If it still crashes after moving that (or you don't have any files there at all), what is the output from

$ locale

My locale settings are all en_US.UTF-8.

I moved the two files , "XEphem and datatbl.txt" out of $/.xephem, but left the .xephem directory. Launched MacPorts X11, same form of failure reported. I then removed .xephem from the directory, and attempted a run under both Apples X11 and MacPorts X11, same form of failure reported. All my locale setting are also en_US.UTF-8 , with the exception of LC_ALL= which is blank.

Please close this ticket. After a number of other ports being installed, I first uninstalled xephem, then reinstalling it. Now works fine. App / Ports installed between failure an success were Python2.6 and Python2.6 docs - I am not sure if any of the dependencies for those made a difference but I now have a working port of xephem. Thank you for all your time, Al
