#24835 closed defect (invalid)

php5-zip 5.3.2 requires PHP 5.3.2 but you have PHP 5.3.0.

Reported by: absolutelyunderstandguitar@… Owned by: macports-tickets@…
Priority: Normal Milestone:
Component: ports Version: 1.8.2
Keywords: Cc: ryandesign (Ryan Carsten Schmidt)
Port: php5-zip

Description

Please forgive my inexperience using Mac Ports. I searched the listings but couldn't find a related ticket and I have no idea how to begin to address my problem. Not sure if its a bug or something to do with my ports. I am very grateful for any guidance.

The problem: When I run port install php5-zip (see end of ticket for full debug output) I get the error:

Error: php5-zip 5.3.2 requires PHP 5.3.2 but you have PHP 5.3.0.

But when I run port info php5, it suggests I am using 5.3.2, and outputs:

Well, I don't understand what was causing the problem, but I managed to fix it by uninstalling php5 and apache2 ports, cleaning and then reinstalling both and then installing php5-zip. It took a couple of attempts but eventually it worked. Fingers crossed.

Error: php5-zip 5.3.2 requires PHP 5.3.2 but you have PHP 5.3.0.

Correct.

But when I run port info php5, it suggests I am using 5.3.2, and outputs:

"port info" tells you what version is available, not what version is installed. "port installed php5" would tell you what version is installed, which based on the error message must be a version of 5.3.0.

Well, I don't understand what was causing the problem, but I managed to fix it by uninstalling php5 and apache2 ports, cleaning and then reinstalling both and then installing php5-zip. It took a couple of attempts but eventually it worked. Fingers crossed.

By uninstalling php5 and reinstalling, you now got 5.3.2.

In the future, you will want to regularly make use of "sudo port selfupdate" to get updated port definitions and "sudo port upgrade outdated" to upgrade any outdated ports.

But the debug output clearly says that php5 5.3.2 is installed just before the error is issued:

DEBUG: No need to upgrade! php5 5.3.2_0 >= php5 5.3.2_0

Ah, thanks for the clarification on use of port installed versus port info - my bad!

Prior to receiving the error I had just run sudo port selfupdate and sudo port upgrade outdated, and as jmr@… points out the debug output suggests php5 5.3.2 was already installed.

During my uninstall reinstall attempts, I mentioned it took me a couple of times to get it to work, it seemed like there was some sort of cache giving out old information, and it wasn't until I had run sudo port uninstall php5 and sudo port clean --all php5 a few times that it then let me install php5 without error. One of the issues was that it wouldn't allow me to install php5 with the apache2 variant because of the presence of the old mod_conf.php file - which indicated to me that sudo port uninstall apache2 didn't appear to delete any files - I expected sudo port uninstall apache2 to delete the apache2 folder and files.

Anyway not sure if any of that is relevant, and apologies again for my ignorance. I've read the MacPorts guide but I'm still unclear exactly what is happening behind the scenes. Thanks for taking the time to respond, much appreciated.

Summary: php5-zip 5.3.2 Error: php5-zip 5.3.2 requires PHP 5.3.2 but you have PHP 5.3.0.php5-zip 5.3.2 requires PHP 5.3.2 but you have PHP 5.3.0.

Indeed I had not noticed what Joshua pointed out, that MacPorts thought you had 5.3.2 installed ("DEBUG: No need to upgrade! php5 5.3.2_0 >= php5 5.3.2_0"), and I cannot explain why it would think that when you clearly actually had 5.3.0 installed ("Error: php5-zip 5.3.2 requires PHP 5.3.2 but you have PHP 5.3.0"). The latter error message is printed by the php5extension portgroup, whose code you can read for yourself to see that all it's doing is running "${prefix}/bin/php-config --version" and comparing that number to the version of the port. On your system, "${prefix}/bin/php-config --version" did return the string "5.3.0", for whatever reason. The only way I can explain this is if you installed 5.3.2 with MacPorts, then somehow without using MacPorts installed 5.3.0 on top of it, or used Time Machine or another backup restoration method to restore at least the php-config script from back when you had 5.3.0, or forcibly convinced MacPorts to try to activate an older version of php5 on top of the newer one that was already active. It's all rather inexplicable and there shouldn't be a way for this to happen in the normal course of events. In any case, I'm glad you got it working now.

I'm not sure what you mean by "some sort of cache giving out old information"; MacPorts doesn't have a cache. It does keep a set of port definitions on hand, and they do not get updated unless you manually run "sudo port selfupdate" or "sudo port sync", so if you're installing ports and getting old versions, make sure you selfupdate first.

Note you don't need to "sudo port clean --all portname" unless you get an error message about a checksum mismatch, or you just want to delete the port's distfiles to save space. Otherwise, "sudo port clean portname" is sufficient and quicker because you won't need to re-download the distfile.

There is no file "mod_conf.php"; I assume you meant "mod_php.conf". This file is part of the php5 port when installed with the +apache2 variant, and is never a part of the apache2 port. "sudo port uninstall portname" should indeed uninstall a port's files; I cannot explain why you ended up with a mod_php.conf that wasn't registered to the php5 port and wasn't uninstalled when you uninstalled the php5 port.
