Description

It appears this port for R does not include a quartz graphical device neither the new R GUI. It would be nice to have both. Thanks

I have wanted to do this for a while now. The roadblock is that building R requires a fortran compiler (which is the reason for the dependency on gcc4x) while building the Aqua/Quartz components requires the Apple compilers. I can make it build by mixing and matching the specific pieces I need, but I am nervous that doing so might introduce some numerical problems (it certainly did in the past).

So how did they build the package we can download at the R project site? There is a bunch of information at http://r.research.att.com/ that may be useful... Thanks again.

The R developers provide their own 4 target fortran compiler compatible with Xcode. There are instructions for how to build it here: http://r.research.att.com/tools/. Unfortunately it is a bit beyond my macports abilities. Until something similar is available in macports we are stuck with the UNIX version of R.

This bug is way out-of-date and should be closed. The R port has provided the Quartz graphical device for several years and the R-app port provides the 'new R GUI'.

I’ll call this “fixed” but am not going to look for the relevant changesets :)

BTW, there is port RKWard these days, which gives a nice KDE-based R-GUI.
