#25038 closed defect (fixed)

ptex-20100522 master_sites are outdated

Reported by: tenomoto (Takeshi Enomoto) Owned by: takanori@…
Priority: Normal Milestone:
Component: ports Version: 1.8.2
Keywords: Cc: gwright@…
Port: ptex, tetex

Description

teTeX seems to have been move to obsolete. For example

master_sites http://ftp.riken.go.jp/pub/tex-archive/obsolete/systems/unix/teTeX/3.0/distrib/:tetex

is the new directory. I was unable to find CTAN on kdd.

BTW, do you plan to migrate to ptexlive?

Fixed in r68096. Thank you for letting me know.

Well, I have an alpha version of port:pTeXLive. But I have no plan to release it widely for now for the following reasons.

  1. There are some compatibility issues. For example,
    • TexShop won't work with pTeXLive without modifying its shell scripts, because some format files have been removed from pTeXLive.
    • Some convenient aliases like platex-euc/utf8/sjis have been eliminated.
    • Some commands have been renamed.
  2. Compared with teTeX, TeXLive is a bit large to compile, I think.
  3. babel is not supported yet. (I heard that Kitamura-san's e-pTeX supports it well.)
  4. I believe that it's too early to release it, because the latest Okumura-sensei's well known pLaTeX book (4th edition you know) is written based on ptetex3. The next 5th edition will be based on pTeXLive/e-pTeX, but it is not published yet.
  5. I haven't been using pTeXLive so well. I don't know how stable it is.
  6. After releasing it I would have to do user support. I'm afraid I have no time to do it for now. :P

Any comments/suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

takanori-san, sorry for the typo. I agree with your opinion on pTeXLive. I also felt that TexLive is very large when it was compiled accidentally.
