  • Summary changed from mysql5-server fails to fetch to mysql5 fetch takes a long time from mysql.mirrors.pair.com

I am able to download from that server, but it goes at a rate of 10K/sec, so it would take 40 minutes to complete. How long did you wait? Maybe we should remove that mirror if it is routinely that slow.

Here's a "Me too"

I'm getting about 5K/minute from the host. Even going to the directory in my browser resulted in the file list taking about 20 seconds to fully load.

I am still unable to download from the specified server. What I experience is the 5k/minute rate, but interlaced with 2 seconds of no activity. Even after giving the port 2+ hours to download, it didn't complete. I agree with adrian@…, downloading mysql5 directly from the website takes about 20 seconds.

I tried updating MacPorts, thinking maybe I had an old version and some mirror had changed, but that didn't change anything. It just sits there at "Attempting to fetch mysql-5.1.48.tar.gz from http://mysql.mirrors.pair.com/Downloads/MySQL-5.1/"

Now I'm noticing the same behavior from the gettext mirror, too.

Attempting to fetch gettext-0.18.1.1.tar.gz from http://distfiles.macports.org/gettext

Still an issue with MySQL. I just called Pair Netlworks to let them know about the issue since it seems to be their server that is responding so slow, and less to do with MacPorts. Still, it woud be helpful if there was a way to specify a different mirror to use or to specify a download speed threshold before trying another server.

Received a response from Pair Networks:

Thank you for brining this to our attention. We are taking a look at it now. This machine also hosts the Firefox mirror and we are seeing a lot of traffic to that. Which may be the cause of the slowness you experienced.

Trying to download directly via my browser saw speeds of 2mb/sec initially, but it's slowly sinking back to the single-digit kb/sec range.

I also let MacPorts chug away for an hour or so in the background and MySQL did eventually install, but not sure how long it took exactly.
