#25695 closed defect (wontfix)

Freetype 2.4.0 renders much worse than 2.3.12

Reported by: ballapete (Peter "Pete" Dyballa) Owned by: ryandesign (Ryan Carsten Schmidt)

Component: ports Version: 1.9.1

Port: freetype

Description

In GNU Emacs 22.3 the font to write the texts in the menu bar and the menus' entries renders really badly now while before it looked OK. Right now I can't proof this because port does not let me build freetype @2.3.12_0 – another bug?

Replying to Peter_Dyballa@…:

I don't know what to tell you. Both versions you attached look pretty bad to me since they're not antialiased, though the 2.4.0 rendering looks slightly better to me since you can now distinguish the dots over the i's. Not sure if this is the effect of enabling the bytecode interpreter hinting or something else. Suggest you communicate with the developers of Freetype directly.

Right now I can't proof this because port does not let me build freetype @2.3.12_0 – another bug?

See the instructions for installing an older version of a port.
