Description
On Tiger, libvpx fails during the destroot phase saying "virtual memory exhausted". This was also reported on the mailing list by Tom E.

Fixed in r70267.

Googling this error suggests this is a bug in GNU make 3.80, which is what's on Tiger. Simplest fix is to use MacPorts gmake which is newer.
