It was successfully installed on another 10.6.4 server running php 5.3.2

It complains about a lot of missing stuff in your log. I don't know why that would be. It's always installed fine for me. Does the problem persist if you "sudo port clean php5-iconv" and try again? If so, please attach the complete main.log file, compressing it if necessary.

I tried port clean php5-iconv before posting a ticket and still got the same problem. I downgraded to 5.3.2, got Zend/Pdf running and put that machine in the datacenter so I can't retry on it. I do have another almost identical machine I can try to reproduce the problem with if you would find it helpful.

So far I don't have a clue what's going wrong, so unless you can provide additional information, I don't know what to do with this ticket.
