problems fetching hdfeos

Hello,

I am running on a Macbook Pro with 10.6.4 and I have successfully installed netcdf +gc44, ncview, and cdo but ncarg bombs with the following errors. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you, barry

Attached patch fixes this.

Adding previous_release dir is a good idea. I updated to 2.17v1.00. Fixed in r71546.
