Here is my log file that is getting a bad command error. I assume I'm doing something wrong but since a ticket has already been opened for what looks like the same issue I'm having....

Found the issue. It appears the problem is the same for ticket #26939. The solution is, as stated by acampbell3000@…,

Ensure your using the developer package SDK 1.6 update 3 instead of standard JRE install. - Ensure you have XCode install with the unix developer tools. - Ensure you perform a "port clean db46" - Ensure you perform a "port selfupdate"

Hope this helps everyone. When I had the development release of java instead of the one installed through the software updater, it worked like a charm. Apparently, the updater does not look for dev releases.

I am have checksum problems with db46 installation that sound similar to the problem above, though they occur when upgrading subversion.

Addendum to above: I have upgraded XCode as recommended to 3.1.4 (I'm running Leopard), I did " port selfupdate", I tried "port clean db46".

There is a checksum issue with the db46 install files when the come from oracle directly. What I had to do was manually download the tar files for the db46 install from a mirror site and then replace the items that were downloaded through the oracle site. That's a work around for until they get the checksums fixed. Here is where the new tar files need to go if you're running Snow Leopard.

/opt/local/var/macports/distfiles/db4/4.6.21_6/

Here is the Mirror I think I used. http://sea.us.distfiles.macports.org/macports/mpdistfiles/db4/4.6.21_6/

Be sure to download all the patches as well. If you still have a problem you can try and installed an older port before the most recent changes were make by following the guide from macports. https://trac.macports.org/wiki/howto/InstallingOlderPort

Also, the failure I had was not a problem with my xcode install but with the java update 3. The software updater for Mac automatically installed the java 3 JRE update (standard update) instead of the Java 3 SDK update (Developer Update). Once I installed the SDK Java through the Apple developer site, which is free to sign up, Everything compiled correctly.
