It seems that though the finch port does not have a universal variant, it is trying to build universal, and failing with: 

gcc-4.2: -E, -S, -save-temps and -M options are not allowed with multiple -arch flags

In any case, the finch port is obsolete and shouldn't even exist anymore. The replacement is the +finch variant of the pidgin port. I will mark the finch port as "replaced_by pidgin". If you encounter the same error with the pidgin port please let us know.
