#27931 new defect

KDE4 PortGroup: generic icons in Applications folder

Reported by: strassh@… Owned by: macports-tickets@…
Priority: Normal Milestone:
Component: ports Version: 1.9.2
Keywords: KDE, portgroup Cc: nerdling (Jeremy Lavergne), mkae (Marko Käning), pixilla (Bradley Giesbrecht), m214089, mayace.cysque@…, cjones051073 (Chris Jones), informatique@…, peter@…, jjstickel (Jonathan Stickel), alessanderbotti@…, Tatsh (Andrew Udvare)
Port: kdegames4 kmymoney4 starfighter

Description

Few month ago I installed kdegames4 and all icons were visible on the /Applications/MacPorts/KDE4 folder. Now after an update all icons looks the same (2 sheets of paper, a pencil, a ruler and a brush). The right icon shows up on the dock when the app is launched, but disappear just after it is closed.

The reference to kdegames4 was just an example to illustrate my problem. I've got the same problem with other ports I installed (or update) since I notice this problem (KMyMoney, but also Starfighter which isn't related to KDE4).

I don't think it's relevant to link this bug to kdegames4.

Well you can't file a ticket against "apps installed by MacPorts in general". Base doesn't automate anything specifically related to app bundles, so either there's something that each affected port is doing wrong, or it's LaunchServices doing something funny that we have no control over.

Has duplicate #27960 which explains this problem is with the KDE4 PortGroup and demonstrates that the icons are installed, but in the wrong place, so the Finder doesn't see them.

Regarding strassh's comment about Starfighter, yes, Starfighter simply does not have a custom Finder icon as installed by MacPorts. Many games and apps not specifically designed for Mac OS X do not. I don't consider that a bug. You can certainly file an enhancement request ticket, requesting we add an icon to Starfighter, but unless you can provide a suggestion of how we might accomplish that, nothing is likely to happen.

I have the same problem. As far as I can tell it affects *all* KDE4 applications.

I had added a patch in kdelibs4 which addressed this exact issue in r59380, but the patch got axed in r74075! Try restoring the patch..

Restoring the patch made no difference for me on 4.5.5.

comment:12 in reply to:  11 Changed 13 years ago by sharky@…

Restoring the patch alone is not sufficient, you need to rebuild any port that depends on kdelibs4.

comment:13 Changed 13 years ago by nerdling (Jeremy Lavergne)

The 4.6.0 upgrade should have taken care of that. Any new reports?

comment:14 Changed 13 years ago by cjones051073 (Chris Jones)

The 4.6.0 upgrade did for me fix a few KDE4 applications, which now have an icon. But most still do not. All my KDE4 packages have been rebuilt.

Before the problem came along some also did not have icons anyway, so perhaps this is 'correct'. From memory though a lot more are missing than they where before.

so in short. It has helped, but maybe there is still something not quite right.

I can verify that KMyMoney does show its icon again after upgrade.

After 4.6 KMyMoney now shows its icon, but kdebase apps like Dolphin and KWrite do not.

comment:18 Changed 13 years ago by mkae (Marko Käning)

Is this still an issue? Can we close it?

comment:19 Changed 13 years ago by strassh@…

As far as I know, things haven't changed since peter's post 3 month ago. I still have some kdebase apps with no icons.

comment:20 Changed 13 years ago by cjones051073 (Chris Jones)

I agree, nothing much has changed. A few applications have icons but most do not, including dolphin and kwrite.
