gtkglext +quartz fails

I cannot seem to get gtkglext initialized by itself, so I'm trying the quartz version. Running OSX 10.6.3 and the logs write this: 

:info:configure checking for X... disabled
:info:configure configure: error: X development libraries not found

when running: 

port install gtkglext +quartz

unsure of what to do?

btw, I just installed the x11 application from the install cd

Have you already reinstalled all other ports with the +quartz variant? Use or non-use of the +quartz variant is really a decision you need to make before you install any ports.
