#28756 closed defect (fixed)

gthumb 2.12.2 image edit tools greyed out

Reported by: sandy@… Owned by: macports-tickets@…
Priority: Normal Milestone:
Component: ports Version: 1.9.2
Keywords: Cc:
Port: gthumb

Description

When an image thumbnail is double clicked to enter view mode, the image edit tools in the EDIT button of the toolbar (the palette icon at the top right) are greyed out.

A similar set (of less comprehensive tools) in the TOOLS button on the toolbar are NOT greyed out but have lesser functionality.

In the screenshot you can see the greyed tools along the vertical bar at right hand side of the screen.

I have checked I have full read/write access to the files. I note the libraries used by gthumb in macports are not the same as in gnome and some are image related e.g. libjpeg.

I apologise for the file size (just under 1 MB). I forgot to re-save it as a JPEG before I attached it. I can't see a way to fix this, or I would.

You should probably report this problem to the developers of gthumb; I'm not sure what MacPorts can do about it.

It works fine in Ubuntu. So it is definately nothing to do with the different libraries in macports?

Well, if you figure out what Ubuntu is doing differently, supply a patch. The gthumb port has no maintainer so it's unlikely to be fixed otherwise. Ubuntu is also shipping 2.11.3 in its stable release, not 2.12.2, so unless you're using Natty I wouldn't be so quick to rule out an upstream bug.

i have tracked the problem to the Image Tools extension of gthumb. This uses some combination of libjpeg and libtiff. Where can I find out how these are implemented in macports?

update - Actually there's quite a lot of libraries in there. I'd like to get it working and I am prepared to invest some time in it, any info on the macports libraries would be appreciated.

Fixed it, what now?

Attach the patch to this ticket and send mail to the macports-dev list asking for it to be reviewed. (The ticket isn't assigned to anyone, so posting a comment here won't get anyone's attention. Hence why I haven't even seen your question until now.)

Is this still a problem with 3.4.1?
