xsane 0.998 fetch fails

While attempting to install gimp on Snow Leopard Server (new system, not upgrade from Leopard, correct MacPorts version for snow leopard), install fails because it cannot fetch and install xsane .998
... ---> Attempting to fetch xsane-0.998.tar.gz from http://sea.us.distfiles.macports.org/macports/mpdistfiles/xsane ---> Attempting to fetch xsane-0.998.tar.gz from http://svn.macports.org/repository/macports/distfiles/xsane Error: Target org.macports.fetch returned: fetch failed Error: Failed to install xsane
Same error occurs with attempt to install xsane directly:
sudo port install xsane ... Error: Target org.macports.fetch returned: fetch failed Error: Failed to install xsane
Doesn't seem to be an open ticket on this issue.

Perhaps your network prohibits access to FTP servers? The port has only FTP servers as master_sites, except for one http site, which does not have the file at the location specified. :(
