Committed in r78576 with these changes:
- patched makefile to ensure we're UsingTheRightCompiler and archs
- added universal variant
- installed documentation file (PortfileRecipes)
- since we're now patching the makefile anyway, patched the makefile in various other ways to make it more generally useful and to simplify the portfile
- specified version of GPL
