here is the message I received while trying to install wine
$ sudo port install wine Warning: No index(es) found! Have you synced your source indexes? Error: Port wine not found To report a bug, see <http://guide.macports.org/#project.tickets>

When I run
sudo port -v selfupdate
it gives me this

So you're having trouble connecting to our rsync server. Has this worked before?
If not, are you able to access any other rsync servers?
If not, is it possible rsync is blocked on your network?
If so, you'll have to find another way to sync your port tree. See FAQ for more.
