The fix is in Mercurial of SDL's SDL 1.2 branch, a post about it at [http://forums.libsdl.org/viewtopic.php?t=7355]
Unfortunately it breaks PPC fullscreen allignment. Previously SDL devs stated that no new release of SDL 1.2 branch would ever come, so this issue needs monitoring and perhaps MacPorts will need to use a snapshot of the 1.2 branch.
