Building 64-bit on Tiger is problematic in general and I advise you not to do it.

Building 64-bit on PowerPC isn't particularly useful unless you need to access more than 4GB of memory from a single program.

Building glib2 64-bit on PowerPC has already been reported not to work in #31221 it's a different error message and there is a patch there; does that help this issue as well? I don't have a G5 to test this with.

I took your advice and switched my arch to 32-bit ppc instead of ppc64, as this is my web development box and shouldn't need to access that much memory in a single process. This resolved my problem.

Many thanks.

Unify powerpc keywords.

Is this still a problem? Even if it is, is there any point leaving this open?

No point in leaving this open. I thought it was long closed by now.
