strange installation path for gcc_select

After the dialog below, I gcc_select does not appear in my path: 

$ sudo port install gcc_select
Password:
--->  Cleaning gcc_select

Spotlight finds the gcc_select executable in the path /opt/local/var/macports/build/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_ports_sysutils_gcc_select/work/destroot/opt/local/bin. This seems to be a strange installation path. Could this be switched to /opt/local/bin?
