Homebrew is considering adding rpm4.11: https://github.com/mxcl/homebrew/pull/19557
Seeing as afb's the one opening that pull request, just opening this ticket to remind him to duplicate his work for MacPorts, too. :-P

I didn't think the problem that MacPorts was having was that there were too few versions of RPM ?
Would like some clarity on the future of "port rpm", before adding any more ports or confusion...
And Homebrew has been considering adding it for 2 years now, so they are certainly taking their time.
Meanwhile we have the MacPorts "archives" and the Homebrew "bottles", but no packages except for .pkg
