tinyca2: homepage, master_sites, livecheck dead/broken

Reported by: dbevans (David B. Evans) Owned by: landonf (Landon Fuller)
Priority: Normal Milestone:
Component: ports Version:
Keywords: Cc: sm@…
Port: tinyca2

Description

Upstream development for tinyca2 has ceased, the current homepage and master_sites are dead and livecheck is broken. Nonetheless, the sources are mirrored by MacPorts and the port still builds and runs successfully. A description of the program is available on Wikipedia.

Attached is a proposed patch that:

  • uses Wikipedia for homepage
  • switches master_sites to the MacPorts mirrors
  • adds license info (GPL per About dialog)
  • switches perl dependencies from p5.12 to p5.16 (#44405)
  • disables livecheck, no updates expected

Thanks for this. By any chance, do you know how long sm-zone.net has been down, or have you tried to contact Stephan Martin (the author and still-registered domain owner)?

If the site is gone for good, we should also copy the TinyCA sources to MacPorts distfile hosting so that we can be sure the distfile won't disappear from caches/mirrors.

No, I haven't tried to contact Stephan (registered email domainhost@… appears to be for the ISP) but according to this report, the site as been down since March.

Apparently, the tarball is still mirrored here.

Just updating things a bit. I did send email to Stephan at the address contained in the app's About dialog 2 weeks ago and have received no reply to date. No error messages either. CCing here for info.

This raises an issue I hadn't considered before.

If a port's master_sites URL goes bad, will the distfile disappear from http://distfiles.macports.org and its mirrors after some time-out? Are you suggesting committing a copy of the distfile to http://svn.macports.org/repository/macports/distfiles/tinyca2?

Landon, are you planning on making the appropriate changes here or are you expecting me to do it? I'm confused but this is nothing new.
