Description
On a Mac running 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard), gettext@0.19.1_0 +universal is failing to upgrade to 0.19.2_0.
log file generated from "sudo port clean gettext && sudo port upgrade -v -d gettext" attached.

Not sure why this is failing for you. The log says:
:info:build make[5]: *** [fstrcmp.lo] Error 1 :info:build make[5]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs....
but I see nothing before that that says what error occurred. I've not had any problem building gettext on my systems.

I agree; I don't see anything verbose about what failed, which is why I opened the ticket... Googling around offered no insights on what that "error 1" might be.

“Error 1” doesn’t mean anything in particular. It just indicates that one of the programs invoked exited with a status of 1.

Have you been able to build gettext since filing this ticket? If not, does the error persist if you clean and try again, and if so, is it the same error as before?
