Dear madam/sir,

I've uninstalled macports but I'm stuck with and IDLE file in my launchpad that has a question mark symbol on it. I would like to remove it but I don't know how.

Thanks in advance,

Best regards, Nikkie

IDLE is part of Python. I've seen this problem too, where some files inside IDLE.app remain, even after uninstalling the applicable Python port. I don't know why this happens...

If you look in /Applications/MacPorts, you should see one or more folders whose names start with "Python". Inside these, you might find the IDLE.app. If so, you can remove it. If you've uninstalled all of MacPorts, you should be able to delete the entire /Applications/MacPorts folder.

Replying to ryandesign@…:

you should be able to delete the entire /Applications/MacPorts folder.

And I should say, if there's anything else in your /Applications/MacPorts folder, besides Python folders containing broken IDLE apps, please let us know, because if you've already uninstalled all MacPorts ports, /Applications/MacPorts should already have been removed by MacPorts; anything remaining in that folder is either there because you put it there or because of a bug, and we'd like to know about bugs.

Dear Ryan,

Thanks a lot for your response. The Macports app is completely removed including all the folders. I am left with this broken IDLE app that I can't find anywhere else in the mac accept for in the launchpad. So maybe it's an apple bug?

Thanks,

Nikkie

Just to make sure: Do the directories /Applications/MacPorts or /opt/local still exist?

My understanding of the Launchpad is that it shows applications that are installed. So if IDLE.app is still showing there, then IDLE.app must still exist on your drive somewhere. You could use Spotlight to search for it.

Does anything happen if you click IDLE.app in Launchpad? Any error message?

Is there an update on this issue?

I just installed, then uninstalled, MacPorts for ImageMagick port. The install didn't really work, so I uninstalled everything according to the MacPorts instructions. However, there is a dangling "MacPorts(Other)" folder with "IDLE" icon in my Launchpad. I can't find any way to eliminate it.

BTW, neither /Applications/MacPorts or /opt/local directories exist. They must have been removed during the uninstall.

After a couple days, the delete-X appeared on the dangling IDLE icon (in shaking mode). Deleting that also removed the now empty folder. So, although slightly mysterious, all is good.
