port 1.2 takes forever to install gnome-session

Description
It ran for 18 minutes before telling me that there was a problem in the Portfile (which was my bad). top said it was using at least 445 MB VSIZE. Seems ridiculous.
port version says 1.200.
System is Mac OS X 10.3.9 "Panther", PowerBook G4, DarwinPorts updated from CVS 2005-11-20.
