Sorry but I couldn't get the meaning of "a variant for the main Gauche" clearly. Does this mean that we let the main Gauche's Portfile handle gauche-*? If so, I don't know it's possible technically. Even it's possible, the package maintenance probably becomes harder.

Yeah, that is correct, have gauche as the port file and then +gl variant will install the gl stuff.

How? Why? There seems no support of DarwinPorts for such packages. Such packages are cumbersome for both maintainers and users. Does Perl package handle whole CPAN modules at DarwinPorts?
Can we make this as a variant for the main Gauche?
