    196196MacPorts 1.8 introduced a new option to macports.conf: '''build_arch'''.  This allows you to control the architecture targeted by builds.  For example, you can use this to build 64bit on 10.5 (where 32bit is the default) or 32bit on 10.6 (where 64bit is usually the default).
