#46539 GitHub fetches fail under OSX 10.5 (and presumably 10.4) macports-tickets@… defect new Low

Reported by fw@…, 7 weeks ago.

Description

While testing the new Portfile for osxfuse, I ran into a problem where my machines running 10.5 were unable to fetch the distfiles from GitHub due to an ostensible certificate problem. However, it's not actually a certificate problem - it's apparently an OpenSSL code version problem. There are two parts to this problem:

1) Under 10.5, the OSX-provided OpenSSL library (version 0.97l) is too old for the corresponding curl to work with GitHub. The OpenSSL 0.9.8y supplied by 10.6 server works, though I don't know if standard 10.6 is different. I suspect that the watershed is between 0.9.7 and 0.9.8, possibly related to "secure renegotiation" support.

2) Even if the curl and openssl ports are installed, MacPorts doesn't use the newer curl internally.

This isn't a terribly serious problem, since:

1) It can be worked around by adding "fetch.ignore_sslcert=yes" to the install or fetch command. This is actually quite safe, since the checksum verification makes MitM attacks on the content pretty pointless, anyway.

2) "Published" ports normally have the distfiles available from the MacPorts servers, so the GitHub access is unnecessary.

If there isn't a reasonable fix for this, it should probably at least be documented, to keep others from tearing their hair out while chasing phantom certificate issues. Due to #2, it's mainly a port developer issue, not an end-user issue.

P.S.: Perhaps someone with a vanilla Snow Leopard "client" install could post the result of "/usr/bin/openssl version".

#46538 liblo @0.26: update to 0.28 macports-tickets@… update closed Normal

Reported by bennigraf@…, 7 weeks ago.

Description

This patch updates the liblo Portfile to use version 0.28. (0.27 was skipped because it was considered unstable after release.)

Tested and works on Mavericks (10.9.5). This fixes an issue with ola which can't receive certain osc messages because liblo decodes the blob data type wrong. I don't know of other software that's affected.

(You might want to help me with this, it's my first ticket/patch.)

#46537 gnucash 2.6.5 fails to configure dports@… defect closed Normal

Reported by marco.morales.a@…, 7 weeks ago.

Description

Gnucash installation stops at configuration after reporting that guile is required but not found. This is done even after I clean and install again. I am attaching main.log and config.log files

Guile is installed and active as reported by

I recently upgraded to Mac OS X 10.10.1 and followed upgrade instructions from wiki:Migration

I have Xcode 6.1.1

Maybe related to ticket:46270 although the error reported there is a little different.

#46528 dirmngr: prevent crash macports-tickets@… defect new Normal

Reported by rjvbertin@…, 8 weeks ago.

Description

I've been seeing regular dirmngr crashes when I open a signed message in kmail.

It seems this was due to calling a function from port:pth without proper initialisation (which appears to be done implicitly). Pth allows for multiple calls to pth_init, so a call to that function before the code leading to the crash seems to have solved the issue.

#46526 UPDATE: osxfuse-2.7.4 dports@… update closed Normal

Reported by fw@…, 8 weeks ago.

Description

OSXFUSE 2.7.4 was released a few days ago, which fixes a couple of operational bugs, as well as build issues under 10.5 and a runtime issue on the G5.

I'm in the process of testing an updated Portfile (and patchfile), which I'll upload soon. This updates the version as well as fixing:

#45794

#46525

#46525 osxfuse >=2.7.3 doesn't install on 10.5 (and perhaps later) dports@… defect closed Normal

Reported by fw@…, 8 weeks ago.

Description

As presently written, the hack to obtain the signed kext from the OSXFUSE release image to get around the Yosemite kext-signing issue always fetches and extracts the .dmg, even when it's not being used. At the very least, this is a waste of time and space, but it also can fail due to incompatibilities in the older tool versions. It's definitely an issue in 10.5; I don't know it it's an issue with any later versions.

The obvious fix (which is a good idea, anyway) is to be more aggressive with the conditionals, and avoid the pointless fetch/extract altogether.

I'm testing an updated Portfile now, so this ticket is just for documentation purposes.

#46516 octave-tsa @4.2.7: ignored errors during build mschamschula@… defect new Normal

Reported by ryandesign@…, 8 weeks ago.

Description

The following errors are printed while building octave-tsa 4.2.7, though they don't prevent the build from completing:

ls: /usr/local/MATLAB: No such file or directory

ls: /usr/local/MATLAB/R*: No such file or directory
make: /bin/mexext: Command not found
ls: /usr/local/MATLAB/R*: No such file or directory
make: /bin/mexext: Command not found

It seems wrong that the port would be looking for anything in /usr/local.

#46515 naturaldocs' installation locations vary depending on perl5's installed variant landonf@… defect new Normal

Reported by ryandesign@…, 8 weeks ago.

Description

naturaldocs' installation locations vary depending on perl5's installed variant. For example, on my system, with perl5 installed with the +perl5_20 variant, naturaldocs installed:

/opt/local/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.20/NaturalDocs -> /opt/local/lib/NaturalDocs-1.5/Modules/NaturalDocs

This breaks ports expecting naturaldocs' files to be in a particular location. See comment:ticket:46363:2

The port should be updated to depend explicitly on perl5.16 and to install its symlink pointing to the perl5.16 module directory. I would not suggest adding perl variants because that too would break dependents of naturaldocs, unless those dependents were to also adopt the same variants (though that would also be an acceptable solution).

#46508 pandoc @1.12.2.1_7 won't install macports-tickets@… defect closed Normal

Reported by fw@…, 8 weeks ago.

Description

Recent "upgrade outdated" attempts are unable to update pandoc. Uninstalling/reinstalling doesn't help. I believe this is related to the recent updates to ghc and friends (which also triggered a huge raft of warnings about failures of deactivate scripts, though I think those have been fixed now).

#46504 Update: dbus 1.8.14 mcalhoun@… update new Normal

Reported by mschamschula@…, 8 weeks ago.

Description

dbus has been updated to version 1.8.14:

The “40lb of roofing nails” release.

Security hardening:

• Do not allow calls to UpdateActivationEnvironment from uids other than
  the uid of the dbus-daemon. If a system service installs unsafe
  security policy rules that allow arbitrary method calls
  (such as CVE-2014-8148) then this prevents memory consumption and
  possible privilege escalation via UpdateActivationEnvironment.

  We believe that in practice, privilege escalation here is avoided
  by dbus-daemon-launch-helper sanitizing its environment; but
  it seems better to be safe.

• Do not allow calls to UpdateActivationEnvironment or the Stats interface
  on object paths other than /org/freedesktop/DBus. Some system services
  install unsafe security policy rules that allow arbitrary method calls
  to any destination, method and interface with a specified object path;
  while less bad than allowing arbitrary method calls, these security
  policies are still harmful, since dbus-daemon normally offers the
  same API on all object paths and other system services might behave
  similarly.

The only thing is that it requires deepseq-generics http://hackage.haskell.org/package/deepseq-generics-0.1.1.2/deepseq-generics-0.1.1.2.tar.gz, and a specific version of that (>=0.1 && <0.2), but I don't know how to specify that in the Portfile.

Attached is a Portfile for deepseq-generics which builds a package which allows hs-pandoc-types to build.

#46485 hs-temporary: fails to build on current Macports cal@… defect closed Normal

Reported by J.Gilbey@…, 8 weeks ago.

Description

I just tried installing pandoc on a fresh macports installation. One of the dependencies which failed to build was hs-temporary; the build log says:

:info:configure Configuring temporary-1.1.2.4...
:info:configure Setup: At least the following dependencies are missing:
:info:configure unix >=2.3 && <2.7
:info:configure Command failed:  cd "/opt/local/var/macports/build/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_tarballs_ports_devel_hs-temporary/hs-temporary/work/temporary-1.1.2.4" && runhaskell Setup configure --prefix=/opt/local --with-compiler=/opt/local/bin/ghc -v --enable-library-profiling --with-gcc=/usr/bin/clang
:info:configure Exit code: 1

I tried upgrading to http://hackage.haskell.org/package/temporary-1.2.0.3/temporary-1.2.0.3.tar.gz but that also fails:

:info:configure Configuring temporary-1.2.0.3...
:info:configure Setup: At least the following dependencies are missing:
:info:configure exceptions >=0.6
:info:configure Command failed:  cd "/opt/local/var/macports/build/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_tarballs_ports_devel_hs-temporary/hs-temporary/work/temporary-1.2.0.3" && runhaskell Setup configure --prefix=/opt/local --with-compiler=/opt/local/bin/ghc -v --enable-library-profiling --with-gcc=/usr/bin/clang
:info:configure Exit code: 1

The exceptions package http://hackage.haskell.org/package/exceptions-0.6.1/exceptions-0.6.1.tar.gz has not yet been packaged as a port.

I've just packaged it for my local machine, which seems to have done the trick, but I don't know how to (a) specify in the hs-temporary Portfile that hs-exceptions is needed, or (b) upload the port somewhere useful where others can make use of it. I can attach it to this ticket if that is of use to someone.

The hs-temporary Portfile diff is as follows:

Dear Experts,

I have been trying to install GTK2 +x11 for mac in order to run (RQDA) and (rattle) packages in r/ r studio. Due to some errors reported by (see, http://marcoghislanzoni.com/blog/2014/08/29/solved-installing-rattle-r-3-1-mac-os-x-10-9/) I need to install Xcode and MacPorts and running the installation manually.

#46459 libunwind-headers compiler blacklisting causes circular dependency jeremyhu@… defect closed High

Reported by ryandesign@…, 2 months ago.

Description

If I am seeing this correctly, there now exists a circular dependency in MacPorts on Snow Leopard and earlier which prevents all compilers from being installed: clang-3.4 (and all compilers) depends on ld64 which depends on libunwind-headers which as of r130871 depends on clang-3.4.

$ port deps clang-3.4
Full Name: clang-3.4 @3.4.2_3+analyzer
Extract Dependencies: subversion
Build Dependencies:   cctools
Library Dependencies: libxml2, llvm-3.4, python27, libffi, ncurses, zlib
Runtime Dependencies: clang_select, ld64, perl5
$ port deps ld64
Full Name: ld64 @97.17_3+llvm34
Build Dependencies:   dyld-headers, libmacho-headers, libunwind-headers
Library Dependencies: llvm-3.4
$ port deps libunwind-headers
Full Name: libunwind-headers @3.5.0_3
Extract Dependencies: xz
Build Dependencies:   clang-3.4
$

Perhaps it was not intentional that the compiler blacklisting apply to the libunwind-headers subport? Perhaps the blacklisting is only needed for the main libunwind port?

#46443 p5-fusioninventory-agent: upgrade and add 5.18 5.20 devans@… enhancement closed Normal

Reported by mojca@…, 2 months ago.

Description

I'm attaching a patch for changes for p5-fusioninventory-agent. The dependencies have been generated with cpan2port.

I added all dependencies:

  • r131169 p5-test-mockmodule: new port
  • r131168 p5-test-http-server-simple: new port
  • r131167 p5-test-compile: new port
  • r131166 p5-poe-component-client-ping: new port
  • r131165 p5-poe: new port (tests fail, #46435)
  • r131164 p5-io-pipely: new port
  • r131163 p5-poe-test-loops: new port
  • r131162 p5-xml-treepp: new port
  • r131161 p5-io-capture: new port
  • r131160 p5-http-server-simple-authen: new port
  • r131159 p5-authen-simple: new port
  • r131156 p5-http-proxy: new port

as well as (unauthorized) r131158 because I needed p5.20-crypt-passwdmd5, but the tests still keep failing, partially due to missing dependencies (for example Can't locate File/Copy/Recursive.pm).

If anyone feels like finishing the job, feel free to do so.

(It also seems that the tests try to read the contents of the complete hard drive.)

#46442 avr-binutils @2.24 avr-size patch g5pw@… enhancement new Normal

Reported by billy@…, 2 months ago.

Description

Hi,

avr-size from the avr-gcc toolchain provides a command option for avr output style in order to print out the program/data/eeprom sizes used in the hex file. Most Linux distributions contain a patched version of avr-size to provide this functionality, the same applies to the avr-gcc toolchain included in Arduino.

The attached patch file brings this functionality to mac ports.

Thanks in advance,

Bill

#46432 scons messes up the environment and removes ${prefix}/bin from $PATH landonf@… defect new Normal

Reported by jeremyhu@…, 2 months ago.

Description

scons messes up the environment in processes it spawns.

Most horrifically, it messes up $PATH, removing ${prefix}/bin. This can cause it to not find the correct tools when it does things like executing install-name-tool to workaround other horrific design decisions in the build system (specifically, not setting the dylib id at link time).

---

I verified that the environment was this in pre_destdir:

TMPDIR=/opt/local/var/macports/build/_Users_jeremy_src_macports_trunk_dports_www_serf1/serf1/work/.tmp
NO_PROXY=*.local,169.254/16
USER=root
CCACHE_DIR=/opt/local/var/macports/build/.ccache
COLUMNS=164
PATH=/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin
PWD=/opt/local/var/macports
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LINES=45
SHLVL=1
HOME=/opt/local/var/macports/build/_Users_jeremy_src_macports_trunk_dports_www_serf1/serf1/work/.home
_=/usr/bin/env

But when scons executed install-name-tool, it picked it up from /usr/bin instead of /opt/local/bin, and this was the path in that process (I replaced /usr/bin/install-name-tool with a shell script to verify this):

PATH=/opt/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11/bin
_=/usr/bin/env
PWD=/opt/local/var/macports/build/_Users_jeremy_src_macports_trunk_dports_www_serf1/serf1/work/serf-1.3.4
PATHOSX=/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11/bin
SHLVL=2

This pretty much prevents the scons build system from being used with modern toolchains on older systems because older install-name-tool will fail like:

scons: Reading SConscript files ...
scons: done reading SConscript files.
scons: Building targets ...
Install file: "libserf-1.a" as "/opt/local/var/macports/build/_Users_jeremy_src_macports_trunk_dports_www_serf1/serf1/work/destroot/opt/local/lib/libserf-1.a"

#46421 youtube-dl @2014.12.17.2_0: make ffmpeg dependency optional ryandesign@… enhancement closed Normal

Reported by lkmorlan@…, 2 months ago.

Description

In #36705, ffmpeg is added as a dependency of youtube-dl. This is a rather heavy dependency when ffmpeg is required only to support one feature of youtube-dl which people may not use. In Debian, ffmpeg (and other similar packages) are recommended, but not dependencies. I suggest we take that approach here.

#46392 gfortran-mp-4.[89] internal compiler error when building scipy-0.14.1 on a PPC sean@… defect closed Normal

Reported by drjesacco@…, 2 months ago.

Description

System: dual G4 powerMac running OS X 10.5.8

gfortran-mp-4.[89] fails to compile scipy/fftpack/src/fftpack/cfftb1.f when optimization is set to '-O3'. Reducing the optimization level to '-O2' allows the compilation to succeed. The attached file contains the relevant portion of the build log and a copy of cfftb1.f.

py(27|34)-scipy-0.14.0 built without incident with an earlier version of gcc-mp-4.8.

A quick workaround to get scipy to build is to modify the numpy file that sets the optimization level for the fortran compiler.

#46391 biblatex-biber @1.8_0+perl5_16: should depend on p5.16-file-slurp instead of p5.16-file-slurp-unicode dports@… defect closed Normal

Reported by jmaibaum@…, 2 months ago.

Description

Hello,

I just tried to install biblatex-biber, but installation fails during dependency resolution, because the port p5.16-file-slurp-unicode has been made obsolete by p5.16-file-slurp, so the dependencies of biblatex-biber should be changed accordingly.

Thank you very much!

Best, Johannes

#46389 schroedinger retrieves sourceforge landing page instead of code archive devans@… defect closed Normal

Reported by sk-public@…, 2 months ago.

Description

The current portfile retrieves an sourceforge landing page, instead of the source code, and saves it as schroedinger-1.0.11.tar.gz.html. As a result it fails with a checksum error. The correct url for the download appears to be http://diracvideo.org/download/schroedinger/schroedinger-1.0.11.tar.gz -- I say "correct" because it matches the checksums in the portfile. For some reason the URL was changed to launchpad.net in changeset 128312.

#46388 frescobaldi @2.17.1: solve problem with trace mode macports-tickets@… defect closed Normal

Reported by davide.liessi@…, 2 months ago.

Description

Installing Frescobaldi in trace mode failed because the packaging script tried to import PortMIDI, which is declared as a runtime dependency and therefore hidden during the installation.

There is no change in functionality, since importing PortMIDI at install time is needed only when building a standalone application bundle, which is not the case in MacPorts.
