#51302 Dovecot Setup Issue. markd@… request Normal guide
Description

Hi.

I have a Mac mini running OS X Yosemite and I'm attempting to follow these instructions: https://trac.macports.org/wiki/howto/SetupDovecot

I have a problem here: Step 2: create directories

When I enter the following at the command line: sudo chown _dovecot:_dovecot /opt/local/var/log/dovecot OS X responds with the following: chown: _dovecot: illegal group name

Previous command line code entered, from here: https://trac.macports.org/attachment/wiki/howto/SetupDovecot/Make_Dovecot_User.command: sudo dscl . -create /Groups/_dovecot sudo dscl . -create /Groups/_dovecot UniqueID 30 sudo dscl . -create /Users/_dovecot sudo dscl . -create /Users/_dovecot UserShell /bin/false sudo dscl . -create /Users/_dovecot RealName "Dovecot IMAP Server" sudo dscl . -create /Users/_dovecot UniqueID 30 sudo dscl . -create /Users/_dovecot PrimaryGroupID 30 sudo dscl . -create /Users/_dovecot NFSHomeDirectory /opt/local/var/run/dovecot

Notes: The _dovecot Group isn't assigned a PrimaryGroupID, but instead a UniqueID. A PrimaryGroupID of 30 is assigned to the _dovecot User. When I view a list of all Groups via the following command: dscl . readall /groups I see a PrimaryGroupID of 30 has already been assigned to _keytabusers.

I’m unsure what to do; the following are potential options: Assign the Group _dovecot a PrimaryGroupID; this may prevent the 'chown: _dovecot: illegal group name' OS X response. Assign a different PrimaryGroupID, i.e. other than 30, to both User and Group to avoid the potential conflict with _keytabusers.

There may have already been a _dovecot User or Group in the 200 range that I deleted as a result of my confusion. Perhaps this was assigned during the earlier 'Install dovecot' command, i.e. 'port install dovecot'. Do you know what the original PrimaryGroupID of such a User or Group was? If a different PrimaryGroupID is used, i.e. other than 30, presumably the one I deleted would be best.

Another option is to upgrade to OS X El Capitan, although I'm not sure whether that will remove the dovecot install thereby allowing me to start again. I'm also unsure whether I could run the 'port install dovecot' command a second time in OS X Yosemite to restore the _dovecot User / Group.

Thanks and best regards, Karl.

#51246 submission: port:zfs and port:zfs-devel macports-tickets@… submission Normal ports
Description

I've finally gotten around to making a port for the OS X implementation of the ZFS filesystem, now that it seems to have reached a sufficient maturity (read: it no longer causes system instability after having done a few simple tests).

I don't think I have to introduce ZFS here, but for those who really don't know what it is: It's the filesystem that Apple once considered as an officially supported FS, if not the default for OS X. It provides very high data reliability (*), is extremely flexible & scalable and has a potential for very good performance (though not necessarily trivial and probably not yet in the OS X implementation). It also offers optional on-the-fly compression including using the lz4 scheme which is fast enough to improve I/O to slow media (time spent de/compressing is less than the increase in data transfer times).

*) even when using a single partition because it can write each file in multiple copies - a feature that prevented me from losing no more than a single trivial file from my Linux rig when a disk started dropping sectors on me at a rate I never saw before a few days ago.

I already tested an earlier release from an officialy installer on Bradley's (pixilla) VM about a year ago, using it to put a whole MacPorts install in a dataset mounted on /opt/local, with compression, case sensitivity and redundancy for important parts like the registry.

The current implementation installs everything properly into ${prefix}, kernel extensions included. That works fine on OS X 10.9 (with a single warning when loading eacho of the kexts the 1st time).

I'd be very interested in feedback from users on more recent versions of OS X, notably 10.11 . I suspect it might be necessary to put the kernel stuff into /Library when SIP is not disabled (?)

Notes:

  • ZFS does tend to like having sufficient memory. On systems with <8Gb it might be wise to read up on reducing the max. amount used by ARC (not related to ObjC's ARC ;))
  • This is a project that's seeing active development and continuous improvement. There's a port:zfs but I would strongly suggest to test port:zfs-devel.
  • In fact, I'd (almost) suggest to use an official installer from the project's website instead of using port:zfs, because that should give better system integration "out of the box". On the other hand, the MacPorts version should be less intrusive/invasive and easier to uninstall.

WARNING: This port installs kernel extensions which get loaded automatically when using ZFS. As a result it should PROBABLY NOT be deactivated, uninstalled or reinstalled without taking the following precautions: 1) unmount (export) all ZFS datasets and pools 2) kextunload zfs.kext 3) kextunload spl.kext

Question: is there a phase where one could check if either of the kexts is loaded, and raise an error if that is the case (pre-deactivate would be perfect)?

Why is the patch file identical to the cmus tarball? Must be a portfile error?

Also, I'm not even using ffmpeg-3.0! I'm using ffmpeg @2.8.6_1+gpl2+nonfree+x11. I can't even find an ffmpeg-3.0 in the ports tree.

My Mac has been reformatted to El Capitan 10.11.4 a few weeks ago. The whole disk has been erased and everything has been reinstalled: Xcode, MacPorts, all the ports.

I did not modify the configuration files in directory /opt/local/etc/macports/, and everything went fine, except for codeblocks.

As far as I can see, there is a compatibility problem with wxWidgets 3.0. I include the log.

In ffmpeg-3.0, the deprecated get_buffer, release_buffer API has been removed in favor of the newer get_buffer2 and friends. The newer API introduces refcounted buffers and, therefore, behaves in a somewhat different manner. The solution here will require a more extensive rewrite/redesign than most.

For more details on the necessary changes, see FFmpeg APIchanges under Reference counted buffers circa 2013-03-08.

Note also that these errors effect the FFmpeg audio module. It's likely that there are other issues in the FFmpeg video module and perhaps elsewhere as well.

I'm reporting this upstream for action by someone who understands the code better than I. Until this is resolved, after upgrading ffmpeg to the version 3.0 series, the only choice will be to disable the FFmpeg plugin. I'd be interested in some feedback from actual OSG users who could quantify what the impact would be if this were the case.

Attached is a proposed patch that fixes the ffmpeg 3.0 build errors without effecting builds on earlier versions. Tested with ffmpeg 2.8.6 and 3.0.1.

Let me know if you agree this patch can be committed. I'd like to do this as soon as possible so that we can upgrade ffmpeg to the 3.0 version series now at ffmpeg 3.0.1.

Thanks

So we have an easy patch for this case! (Presumingly.)

#51215 libquicktime-devel: build fails with ffmpeg-3.0+ jeremyhu@… defect Normal ports
Description

As noted in #50694, the current version of libquicktime-devel fails to build with ffmpeg 3.0+ due to the use of deprecated API removed in 3.0.

This issue has been addressed upstream by patches committed to the upstream cvs repository on date: 2015/12/05 18:52:43.

The attached patch updates the port's cvs fetch date to 2015-12-06 allowing the port to build with either ffmpeg 2.8.6 or 3.0+. I suggest committing these changes now so that the port can be updated to build with ffmpeg 3.0 with a simple revbump when that port is committed.

#51211 It would be nice to have a mysqld.sock for Mysql 5.7 macports-tickets@… defect Normal ports
Description

even though ticket:49634 is marked as closed, support for a proper port for mysql does not seem to be completed.

There exists mysql57 and mysql57-server ports but a socket for mysql57 does not seem to exist. Also, the how to page for installing mysql (wiki:howto/MySQL) stops at mysql 56.

sudo bin/mysql -u root -p
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/opt/local/var/run/mysql57/mysqld.sock' (2)

Can we have this updated please?

#51207 moc: update to version 2.6-alpha1, fix ffmpeg 3.0 build issues eu@… update Normal ports
Description

As noted in #50694, the current version of moc fails to build with ffmpeg 3.0+ due to the use of deprecated API removed in 3.0.

Attached is a proposed patch that updates moc to version 2.6-alpha1 with additional upstream patches (svn 2782-2785, 2800) that address the ffmpeg 3.0 issues. Outdated patches have been removed, master_sites and livecheck updated. The resulting update builds correctly using either the current ffmpeg 2.8.6 or ffmpeg 3.0+. I suggest committing these changes now allowing the port to be updated to ffmpeg 3.0 with a simple revbump when that port is committed.

Let me know if this is OK to commit.

#51201 nano crashes when opening multiple files: use-after-free jeremyhu@… defect Normal ports
Description

Using nano to open many files at once often causes the process to crash.

Building with ASan reveals that this is a use-after-free.

The issue seems to be that nano is feeing memory that it doesn't own, so the next time dirname(3) goes to use its buffer, nano crashes.

#51199 libextractor: missing dependency on libsmf causes opportunistic configuration ryandesign@… defect Normal ports
Description

While working on libextractor ffmpeg issues earlier today, I noticed that libextractor will configure with libsmf to provide midi support if it is available. Doesn't seem to be an obvious way to disable this during configure so adding a dependency on libsmf is probably the easiest solution.

#51198 libextractor: build fails with ffmpeg-3.0+ ryandesign@… defect Normal ports
Description

As noted in #50694, the current version of libextractor fails to build with ffmpeg 3.0+ due to the use of deprecated API removed that has been removed in 3.0.

Attached is a patch that addresses this issue, allowing libextractor to build with both ffmpeg 2.8 and 3.0+. I suggest committing these changes now allowing the port to be updated to ffmpeg 3.0 with a simple revbump when that port is committed.

#51197 goldendict: build fails with ffmpeg-3.0+ ryandesign@… defect Normal ports
Description

As noted in #50694, the current version of goldendict fails to build with ffmpeg 3.0+ due to the use of deprecated API removed that has been removed in 3.0. The problem has now been addressed upstream.

Attached is a patch that backports these changes to the current release version. With this patch applied goldendict now builds correctly using either ffmpeg 2.8 or ffmpeg 3.0. I suggest committing these changes now allowing the port to be updated to ffmpeg 3.0 with a simple revbump when that port is committed.

Hi,

When exiting python35 (ctrl-D) then bash is in a non-standard state, where keyboard input is not echoed. "stty echo" fixes the issue.

#51184 harfbuzz 1.2.6 fetch fails ryandesign@… defect Normal ports
Description

Fetching is failing for Harfbuzz.

First it fails to get archive as it seems there is no ppc archive. (Is this a binary?)

Then it fails to get the source (distfiles) from a large set of mirrors including freedesktop.org, which is weird because I can download it manually.

It seems it's related to a SSL/CA certificate problem, that I don't know how to fix.

#51175 angband trouble with 'port clean' macports-tickets@… defect Normal ports
Description

While running a "port clean angband" you encounter port variant problems. This stops a complete system wide clean, which is useful to run from time to time.

You can make it go away by issuing:

port clean angband -aqua

but this is less than desirable most of the time and shouldn't be necessary.

See example output:

Description

As I update my macports installation I find that ncurses 6 does not provide libncurses.5.dylib, which xcode is expecting. Downgrading to ncurses 5.9 solves the problem. Is the problem that my xcode is too old? This is not a bug in ncurses, but an upgrade path problem in some circumstances.

Is there any chance of MacPorts providing the latest version of sunwait? The version on MacPorts (0.1) is woefully out of date and the original authors web site says he is no longer working on it and has passed responsibility to Ian Craig here;- https://sourceforge.net/projects/sunwait4windows/

The latest version of the project (0.8) is much enhanced and considerably more useful than the out of date version on MacPorts.

#51152 netcdf @4.4.0_1: nc-config and netcdf.pc contain erroneous "-loptimized" and "-ldebug" takeshi@… defect Normal ports

ld: library not found for -loptimized
clang: error: linker command failed with exit code 1 (use -v to see invocation)

This is coming from files installed by the netcdf port.

There aren't many references to this kind of problem on Google but I found this:

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/18309438/cmake-differences-between-linking-when-target-is-a-library-vs-executable

It seems to be saying the problem is quoting a cmake list variable, which causes it to be interpreted as a string.

netcdf's configure output includes these occurrences of "optimized":

-- Found HDF5: /opt/local/lib/libhdf5.dylib;/opt/local/lib/libz.dylib;/usr/lib/libdl.dylib;optimized;/usr/lib/libm.dylib;debug;/opt/local/lib/libmd.dylib;/opt/local/lib/libhdf5_hl.dylib;/opt/local/lib/libhdf5.dylib;/opt/local/lib/libz.dylib;/usr/lib/libdl.dylib;optimized;/usr/lib/libm.dylib;debug;/opt/local/lib/libmd.dylib (found version "1.10.0")

And:

-- Linking against: /opt/local/lib/libhdf5_hl.dylib;/opt/local/lib/libhdf5.dylib;/opt/local/lib/libz.dylib;/usr/lib/libdl.dylib;optimized;/usr/lib/libm.dylib;debug;/opt/local/lib/libmd.dylib;/opt/local/lib/libcurl.dylib

And finally:

#51151 hdf5: updating to 1.10 switches to the new incompatible file format; please make it possible to build the 1.8.x branch macports-tickets@… enhancement Normal ports
Description

HDF5 1.10 introduces the new file format that cannot be read with HDF5 1.8.x. (See https://www.hdfgroup.org/HDF5/release/obtain5110.html#newfeat.)

If I upgrade this port now, the tools I have on my system will generate files I cannot share with people that did not upgrade HDF5 to version 1.10 yet.

Please consider adding a port variant (or a sub-port) that would use the 1.8.x branch of HDF5 (note that the 1.8.x branch is still maintained by HDF Group).

This also affects NetCDF, which uses HDF5 under the hood. See https://github.com/Unidata/netcdf-c/issues/250.

Thanks!
