Reported by ram@…, 21 months ago.

Description

Current octave-devel depends on libgcc specifically and does not allow libgcc-devel to satisfy this dependency, can the following be used as the dependency for libgcc be used so that libgcc-devel can satisfy the dependency:

path:lib/libgcc/libgcc_s.1.dylib:libgcc
#32351 octave-devel: atlas and accelerate variants; llvm-gcc-4.2 instead of clang michaelld@… enhancement Normal ports

Reported by takeshi@…, 3 years ago.

Description

Enabled use of Accelerate framework by wrapping sdot in dotwrp. Created atlas and accelerate variants. Changed C compiler to llvm-gcc-4.2 with +g95.

#36146 octave-devel build: no graphics display found michaelld@… defect Normal ports

Reported by vic@…, 3 years ago.

Description

I just did a clean installation of octave-devel:

   sudo port install octave-devel +gcc47 +docs +fltk

The build went perfectly and octave now works---but with one serious problem that is announced immediately:

warning: no graphical display found

The latest port of aquaterm @1.1.1 is installed and active in my MacPorts system. I believe octave-devel should have picked this up during its compilation.

My homebrew octave, also @3.6.2,

   /usr/local/bin/octave

has no problem finding the MacPorts aquaterm.

#31062 octave-devel builds without qhull support when using qhull @2011.1 michaelld@… defect Normal ports

Reported by gnwiii@…, 4 years ago.

Description

See: http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/index.php?33712 -- open bug

configure octave-devel looks for /opt/local/include/qhull/qhull_a.h and links against libqhull. After upgrading qhull to qhull @2011.1, the headers are in /opt/local/include/qhull and the library is libqhull6.dylib, so octave-devel builds without qhull support.

#37070 Octave-devel cannot activate hdf5 with mpich2 michaelld@… defect Normal ports

Reported by ryusuke.numata@…, 3 years ago.

Description

Octave-devel automatically deactivates hdf5 with WARNING saying HDF5 library not found when hdf5 is installed with +mpich2. The problem occurs because a compiler cannot find mpi.h, mpio.h on which (parallel) hdf5 library depends. mpi.h and mpio.h are not installed in the default search path, but in /opt/local/include/mpich2/.

I'm not sure what is the best way to resolve this problem. Maybe octave-devel port can avoid this problem by giving the -I/opt/local/include/mpich2 flag somewhere. Or, mpich2 port may change the place to install include files.

The same problem should also happen to octave port.

#30627 octave-devel crashes on mismatched matrix dimensions michaelld@… defect Normal ports

Reported by jmrosenstock@…, 4 years ago.

Description

I reported this to octave: https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/index.php?33943

They think something with catching exceptions isn't right with the macports configuration, perhaps related to exception handling.

"The xgemm function is part of Octave (liboctave/dMatrix.cc). When it detects a dimension mismatch, it calls gripe_nonconformant (liboctave/lo-array-gripes.cc). That function calls an error handler using the function pointer current_liboctave_error_with_id_handler. Normally, that is set to lo_error_with_id_handler (set in the function initialize_error_handlers in src/octave.cc). That function ultimately calls octave_throw_execution_exception (libcruft/misc/quit.cc) which ultimately throws a C++ exception which should be caught in the main_loop function (src/toplev.cc). I'd guess the abort is happening because the exception is not caught as it should be."

#31903 octave-devel +docs variant missing dependency on texlive-basic michaelld@… defect Normal ports

Reported by vic@…, 4 years ago.

Description

I am running Mac OS X 10.7.2, Xcode 4.2. I can do "port install octave-devel +debug" with no problem; however "port install octave-devel +debug +docs" continually fails. MacPorts claims I have do not have a working TeX binary tex installed anywhere in my PATH. See below.

In fact I use TeX constantly. My PATH contains "/usr/texbin" which is a symbolic link to "/usr/local/texlive/2011/bin/x86_64-darwin" which contains tex. I have no idea why MacPorts cannot find tex in my PATH.

This is not a Lion problem. I had the same problem porting octave-devel +docs in OS X 10.6.

Here is the error:

The log file is over 10 MB long so I just attached the last partl I wasn't sure how much to include so I'll send more if necessary. I'm using Macports 2.01 on a MacBook Air. I installed octave-devel on my iMac under Snow Leopard and it still works under Lion.

#40806 octave-devel: error: 'CGDisplayBitsPerPixel' was not declared in this scope michaelld@… defect Normal ports

Reported by ram@…, 19 months ago.

Description

Looks like the #30737 also effects Mavericks as I'm getting the following:

:info:build libtool: compile:  /opt/local/bin/g++-mp-4.8 -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I.. -I../libgnu -I../libgnu -I../libcruft/misc -I../liboctave -I../liboctave -I. -I. -pipe -Os -m64 -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I/opt/local/include -Wall -W -Wshadow -Wold-style-cast -Wformat -Wpointer-arith -Wwrite-strings -Wcast-align -Wcast-qual -pipe -Os -m64 -D_THREAD_SAFE -pthread -pipe -Os -m64 -c dynamic-ld.cc  -fno-common -DPIC -o .libs/liboctinterp_la-dynamic-ld.o

:info:build ^

Using the same fix as #30737, i.e.:

platform darwin 13 {
    # In 10.9 patch is required as above, also
    # the LANG environment variable needs to
    # be set to "C" otherwise /usr/bin/sed
    # fails with an error, if you installed gsed
    # with default name this should have no effect.

    patchfiles-append patch-src-display.cc.diff
    build.args-append LANG="C"
}

allows the build to get a little further but then it fails with:

#34404 octave fails to build with hdf5-18 +mpich2 macports-tickets@… defect Normal ports

Reported by ryusuke.numata@…, 3 years ago.

Description

Octave fails to build because of missing the MPI library. I guess this is because my hdf5-18 is installed with +mpich2. A solution may be adding mpich2 (and also openmpi) variant where an appropriate MPI capable c++ compiler is set, like the attached patch file.

#35409 octave: fatal error: curl/types.h: No such file or directory macports-tickets@… defect Normal ports

Reported by bobm.dsp@…, 3 years ago.

Description

When trying to install port octave on Mountain Lion I'm getting an error:

Error: org.macports.build for port octave returned: command execution failed

And finally:

Error: Processing of port octave failed

This is on Mountain Lion. I have tried the following, without success:

  1. Removed MacPorts completely
  2. Reinstalled MacPorts using 2.1.2 Mountain Lion package
  3. Confirmed Xcode command line tools have been installed
  4. sudo xcodebuild -license (this fixed some prior problems)
  5. sudo port clean octave and then attempted to reinstall
  6. Changed the server in sources.conf to “http://www.macports.org/files/ports.tar.gz [default]“ (this fixed other prior problems)

This all helped with problems getting dependencies built. But no luck yet with octave or octave-devel. I will attach the log file.

#16831 octave gcc43 variant installs g95 stechert@… defect Normal ports

Reported by bcbarnes@…, 7 years ago.

Description

10.5.5 (intel MBP), Macports 1.600, recently selfupdate'd.

When installing octave, even with the +gcc43 variant, the g95 package is still installed. gcc43 provides gfortran by default, and gfortran should be used to compile any fortran files required for octave or its dependencies (yes? if not, why...?).

g95 ends up eating disk space needlessly, and if uninstalled and then octave is upgraded, g95 attempts to reinstall itself.

solution: make octave and/or its dependencies build with the full F95 compliant gfortran compiler.

thanks!

#37767 octave-general @1.3.2 fails to build macports-tickets@… defect Normal ports

Reported by roberthuston@…, 2 years ago.

Description

I did a self update and discovered that my octave-signal port needed to be upgraded to 1.2.0_0. As part of the upgrade, macports pulled down octave-general @1.3.2. But the build failed, thus preventing me from upgrading my octave-signal port. It appears that the portfile's build script fails to create intermediate directories and thus cannot populate them with intermediate results. I have attached the output of the main.log that was dumped as part of the build.

#44342 octave-general @1.3.4_0 Configure error - build failure macports-tickets@… defect Normal ports

Reported by roberthuston@…, 10 months ago.

Description

After upgrading to octave @3.8.1_0, I also needed to upgrade my Octave packages. However, octave-general @1.3.4_0 now fails at configuration because it can't find /opt/local/share/octave/3.8.1/etc/macros.texi. I went to that directory and verified that the file is indeed missing. My previous version of octave-general @1.3.2_0 was fine, but it ran with my installation of octave @3.6.4. It would be nice to play with the new GUI, but I can't be without my Octave packages, so I'm reverting for now.

octave-image 1.0.10 won't build due to errors in pngread.cc and pngwrite.cc caused by incompatibilities with newer libpng that has changed definitions of: png_infopp_NULL, png_set_gray_1_2_4_to_8, and png_check_sig (at least). These are fixed in the current 1.0.13 upstream image package for octave on OctaveForge.

#47199 octave-interval @0.1.3_0: update to 0.1.4 macports-tickets@… update Normal ports

Reported by mschamschula@…, 2 months ago.

Description

octave-interval has been updated to version 0.1.4:

0.1.4 2015-03-15
================

 * New interval constructors: hull, midrad

 * New interval arithmetic functions: cbrt, cot, coth, csc, csch, dilog, ei,
erf, erfc, gamma, gammaln, psi, rsqrt, sec, sech

 * mtimes: Support for fast, less accurate evaluation using BLAS routines

 * mldivide, mrdivide, inv: Improved performance by using faster mtimes

 * infsup, infsupdec: Enabled broadcasting of scalar boundaries

 * rad: May compute mid and rad simultaneously

 * subsref: Access to interval properties using field syntax: x.inf and x.sup
#47367 octave-interval @0.1.4_0: update to 0.1.5 macports-tickets@… update Normal ports

Reported by mschamschula@…, 7 weeks ago.

Description

octave-interval has been updated to version 0.1.5:

Implicit decoration of bare intervals triggers a warning now and can be
allowed or forbidden by the user. Implicit decoration of bare interval
   literals is not affected.

 * newdec: New operation for explicit promotion of bare intervals into
   decorated intervals (without warning).

 * Decorated interval literals with illegal decoration are no longer allowed
   and produce NaIs.

 * hull: In contrast to the union function, the interval constructor is no
longer considered a set operation and can create intervals with a
   non-trivial decoration.

 * setdiff, setxor: New set operations

 * intersect, union: Renamed set operations; the old function names (and, or)
are hereby deprecated and are going to be removed in the next release.

 * intervaltotext, intervaltoexact: Decimal fractions no longer omit zero
before the point, and unnecessary trailing decimal places can be omitted
more consistently and in more cases than before (also affects console
output). Improved accuracy and performance with support for interval
   matrices.

Bugfixes
 * mtimes, mldivide: Support for broadcasting of scalar parameters
 * nextout: Support for decorated intervals
 * An error in GNU Octave core, which could lead to lost or wrong interval
decorations, no longer affects decorated intervals (bug #42735)
 * Some errors in the function documentation have been fixed (thanks to
doctest-for-matlab and Colin's texinfo compatibility patches)
 * Fixed interval field access on Windows
#47634 octave-interval @0.1.5_0: update to 0.2.0 macports-tickets@… update Normal ports

Reported by mschamschula@…, 3 weeks ago.

Description

octave-interval has been updated to version 0.2.0:

   • User manual included in the package, see doc/manual.texinfo
   • New utility functions: cat, postpad, prepad, reshape, resize
   • and, or: Removed deprecated functions
   • Improved display output for cell arrays and new function: disp
   • Minor performance improvements (all decorated interval functions,
     horzcat, vertcat)

Bugfixes
   • cbrt: Allow negative values as parameter
   • cot: Fixed accuracy for x = 0
   • cos, csc, sec, sin: Fixed correctness in certain cases

#30866 octave-java not working macports-tickets@… defect Normal ports

Reported by JDTilley@…, 4 years ago.

Description

I tried sudo port install octave-java on my OS X 10.7 Lion machine. It built OK, but the java functions do not appear to be working. For example:

octave:1> pkg list
Package Name | Version | Installation directory
--------------+---------+-----------------------
        java *| 1.2.6 | /opt/local/share/octave/packages/java-1.2.6
octave:2> help java_new
error: help: `java_new' not found
octave:2> java_invoke("java.lang.System","currentTimeMillis")
error: `java_invoke' undefined near line 2 column 1
octave:2> exit

I have also tried building java-1.2.8 but get the same problem. I have sought help on the octave board, and their best guess is that it involves a problem with the Java directory structure on Lion. Flags such as JAVA_HOME, JAVA_LIBS, JAVA_INC, etc. might be obsolete. Does anyone have any ideas?
