The src-os_unix.c.diff patch is needed for some variant, I don't remember which one exactly.
As for the ugliness: you should ask the maintainer, this ticket is only a trivial version bump.

Portfile's patch mentions a src-os_unix.c.diff which is not present. What is its use? It built fine without this patch, however, as the current version of vim, it installs uglily: port contents vim lists a directory ${prefix}/Vim.app ! and also lots of things in ~dp/build/_opt..._vim/work/destroot/opt/local/... It installs things in destroot !
