BUG: automake fails to build

Installing "automake" by typing "sudo port install automake" fails. While building, perl is crashing, crashdump is available.

Mac OS 10.4.8, PPC (G4)

just updated automake to v1.10 - please re-open this bug if this happens with 1.10, too!
