I suppose we do not have a default make - only implicitely stated by the platform...
had a try with this one on FreeBSD where I recognized that bsdmake didn't do the job; the idea was to state gnumake explicitely as it'll make it easier later on for building on !darwin platforms.
on my darwin box it of course works!

Um, gnu make is the default make already - what platform are you building on? this port is currently only "rated" for the darwin platform, which is why I'm asking.
