MacPorts installer didn't create .profile

Description
According to the installation web page, the MacPorts Installer is supposed to create a .profile file if none exists. Using MacPorts-1.6.0.pkg under Mac OS X 10.5.2 (Build 9C31) on a MacBook, this failed to happen. However, after I created a .profile file, I was able to reach the port command and man page.
