Thank you for the submission, Marc! I committed it as-is in r39729, but I'd like to make some stylistic changes in additional revisions if that's alright with you.

That is absolutely OK of course, feel free to change it as much as you like in order to get it in line with the rest of MacPorts.

One thing I took from a Linux distribution that had an RPM for cdargs is the idea to put the shell startup script code in a ".d" directory. I think it would be MacPort's (or maybe the bash port's) responsibility to define such a standard location, for other packages that also install global shell initialization code.

Of course the bash package would need to be extended to source those files. That's what happens on the Linux distro.

Yeah, we don't have any central way for ports to get things added to the shell environment. That could be a discussion for another day. For now I just added instructions in the port for how to use it.
