Description

"port info package" provides information about each package, but never about the variants. It would be usefull if ports had descriptions for it's variants

Maybe the docummentation should mention something about common variants such as "+no_x11"

Variants do have descriptions (port lint complains if they don't). Try 

port variants <portname>

which is described in the man page documentation under user targets
