FAQ needs info on how to build for i386 on 10.6 (64 bit kernel)

Description

I have trouble building some ports for 64 bit, so I found the FAQ entry mentioning "build_arch", which suggests that it's possible to build for another arch.

HOWEVER, I can find no info on how to use this feature anywhere. Neither the wiki nor the man page nor "port help" mentions "build_arch".

Besides this problem of lacking docs on build_arch, it would be good if the FAQ could simply give instructions on what needs to be done in order to rebuild all ports (and future installs as well) for i386 on a 10.6 64 bit system.

  1. Set build_arch to i386 in /opt/local/etc/macports/macports.conf
  2. Uninstall all ports and reinstall them, similar to the way suggested in the Migration page.
