It's not claiming you have an a2p port installed. It's claiming you have a perl5.8 port installed, which you need to deactivate in order to be able to install perl5.12.

sudo port deactivate perl5.8

    initial v1
11I am trying to install perl5.12 but installer complains port a2p is being used by perl5.8. Problem is, I do not have port a2p installed (and I do not believe such port exists). I therefore cannot deactivate it and complete the perl5.12 installation.
