Thanks, updated in r71056. I also increased the epoch, since otherwise MacPorts would consider 1.4.0 to be less than 1.4.0rc2 and would not report it in "port outdated". I also added "dist_subdir wireshark" so that when wireshark is updated to version 1.4.0, it won't have to download the same distfile again. wireshark should be updated to 1.4.0 too, right? If so, please file a new ticket for that update.

Oups, thanks for the bug fix !

Wireshark team's has published 1.2.11 ( current wireshark port version is 1.2.10 ).
Do you want that wireshark and wireshark-devel ports point on the same version ?
Maybe we can wait a new dev-branch to set wireshark version to 1.4 ?

The wireshark port is for the latest stable version of wireshark, which according to the wireshark web site is 1.4.0. If you don't think it's ready to be used by the general population, we can wait to update it to 1.4.0 and instead update it to 1.2.11 for now. The wireshark-devel port is for the latest development version of wireshark, which according to the wireshark web site is 1.4.0rc2, but it's fine to update it to 1.4.0 since that's newer.

Wireshark 1.4 is mature for general population.
It's support gtk-osx-application. It authorize Quartz integration, the result is nice with snow-leo ;-).
(Current packages for MacOSX delivered by wireshark.org still relies on x11)

But wireshark ports lack some features to provide good feeling:

  • ChmodBPF
  • bundle in /Applications/MacPorts/

The wireshark-devel port is for the latest development version of wireshark, which according to the wireshark web site is 1.4.0rc2, but it's fine to update it to 1.4.0 since that's newer.

Yes, 1.2.11 is considered as "old-stable-release"
I will create a new ticket to update wireshark port to version 1.4

When Eric updated wireshark to 1.4.0 in r71071 he made some additional changes beyond what you proposed. Should we adopt those changes into wireshark-devel as well?

Incorporated these changes into wireshark-devel in r71077.

There are still several probably unnecessary differences between wireshark and wireshark-devel. Please work with the maintainer of wireshark to make these two ports more similar.
