You appear to be missing the _socket module in python26.

How is possible to install that through MacPort?

The _socket module is a standard part of python. Do you still see this with 2.6.7? If so, please attach your log from building python26.

Closing since there was never any response to comment:5.
python26 has been updated several times since this bug was reported, so hopefully the problem was fixed.
In any event, py26-distribute is now marked as obsolete.
