Installing curl fixed it though I'm not sure why it can't just use the curl that comes with OSX. the dependency should be added or last.fm disabled by default.

and now that it's installed it's configured all wrong.... it should be running as _mpd but it's running as me, and not logging anything....

likely it did not make the _mpd user, I just changed it to my user and it works now.
